Author Guidelines

GORILLAS : Journal of Governing Sustainability, Livelihoods and Environmental Affairs welcomes original manuscripts that have not been previously published and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Submissions must align with the journal’s focus on sustainability governance, livelihoods, and environmental affairs, and demonstrate clear scholarly contribution, analytical rigor, methodological soundness, and ethical research practice.

Manuscripts may take the form of original research articles, conceptual or theoretical papers, policy analyses, or critical reviews relevant to the journal’s scope. Contributions should advance academic debates and/or provide practical insights into issues such as sustainability governance, natural resource management, climate resilience, community livelihoods, environmental policy, and socio-ecological transformation. All submissions must be written in clear academic English and prepared in accordance with the journal’s formatting and citation guidelines as outlined in the official template. Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of references, proper citation of sources, and consistency in style and structure.

Submissions must be made through the journal’s online submission system. To ensure the integrity of the double-blind peer-review process, authors must remove all identifying information from the main manuscript file. A separate title page including the names of authors, institutional affiliations, ORCID iDs (if available), and contact details should be uploaded as supplementary material.

Authors whose research involves human participants, local communities, or environmentally sensitive contexts are expected to adhere to recognized ethical research standards, including obtaining informed consent where appropriate and ensuring responsible data management. Research that engages with local or marginalized communities should reflect principles of inclusivity, respect, and reciprocity. The journal discourages exploitative or extractive research practices and encourages reflexive, community-engaged, and sustainability-oriented scholarship.

All manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening to assess relevance and basic quality standards, followed by a double-blind peer-review process. Authors may be asked to revise their manuscripts in response to reviewer comments. Final decisions regarding publication are made by the Editor-in-Chief based on scholarly merit, methodological robustness, ethical compliance, and alignment with the journal’s scope.
